Chlorine Free Products Association (CFPA)

The Chlorine Free Products Association (CFPA) is an independent not-for-profit accreditation & standard setting organization. Their focus is to promote sustainable manufacturing practices, implementing advanced technologies free of chlorine chemistry, educating consumers on alternatives, and developing world markets for sustainably produced third party certified products and services. The CFPA has no financial interest in any manufacturer, or company, of the products it certifies.
Forest Certification Resource Center
The Forest Certification Resource Center is a program of
Metafore. Founded in 1997, Metafore is a Portland, Oregon-based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that collaborates with leading organizations to create and implement solutions that lead to better business decisions based on awareness of environmental impact.
Environmental Defense

Environmental Defense is dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including future generations. Among these rights are clean air, clean water, healthy food and flourishing ecosystems. They are guided by scientific evaluation of environmental problems, and the solutions advocated are based on science. They work to create solutions that win lasting economic and social support because they are nonpartisan, cost-effective and fair. As an organization based in the United States, they pay special attention to U.S. environmental problems and to America's role in causing and solving global problems, and aim to share their approaches internationally.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

The FSC is an international, membership-based, non-profit organization that supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. The FSC was founded in 1993 in Toronto, Canada by representatives from environmental groups, the timber industry, the forestry profession, Aboriginal organizations, and community forestry groups from 25 countries. Since inception, the organization's membership has grown to comprise more than 550 members from 67 countries (as of 2004).
Green-E

The Green-e logo is the nationally recognized symbol for certified renewable energy. Green-e is the nation’s leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy and companies that use renewable energy. The Center for Resource Solutions, the national non-profit that administers the Green-e program, works to increase the amount of renewable energy used worldwide.
Green Seal

Founded in 1989, Green Seal provides science-based environmental certification standards that are credible, transparent, and essential in an increasingly educated and competitive marketplace. Their industry knowledge and standards help manufacturers, purchasers, and end users alike make responsible choices that positively impact business behavior and improve quality of life.
The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS)

The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) is a national nonprofit working to build a robust renewable energy market by increasing demand and supply of renewable resources. CRS is a proven leader in creating energy strategies to protect both the environment and consumer, and has an impressive portfolio of programs in renewable energy policy and regulatory issues. Our proven networking approach relies on collaborative efforts and partnerships with a host of stakeholders -- from businesses to government agencies and NGOs -- to address major, long-term energy and environmental problems.
SmartWood
SmartWood is an accredited certification body in the FSC system. FSC accredits independent, "third-party" certification bodies or "certifiers" that assess companies and landowners according to FSC policies, principles and criteria. FSC audits its certifiers on an annual basis to ensure that policies are being followed and public reports on these audits are available through www.fsc.org The Rainforest Alliance endorses FSC certification of forests as the most effective way to balance the environmental, cultural and economic values of forests. SmartWood is the certification arm of the Rainforest Alliance.
The SmartWood program, offers independent auditing, certification and promotion of FSC-certified forest products to improve forest management by providing economic incentives to businesses that practice responsible forestry. With offices and partner organizations around the world, we are able to offer on-the-ground certification services globally.
Sustained Forestry Initiative, Inc. (SFI)
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative, Inc. is North America's largest forest certification program. The
fully independent Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) program is based on a simple premise: We can protect our forests while producing the wood and paper products our economy needs. The SFI program integrates the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, soil, water, and air quality. Over 126 million acres of land are certified by independent, third-party audits to meet the SFI standard’s, one of the most rigorous in the world.
